Jessica Power Cyr - Blast the A**: Activate the gluteal muscles | Stanley Gym

Your gluteal muscles are important for everyday function. We need them to maintain an upright erect posture, proper pelvic alignment, propulsion during walking and running, and even standing on one leg.  This workshop is perfect for all instructors from older adults, fitness to mind-body leaders.  In this workshop Jessica will review the gluteal muscles and their function and present you with effective exercises to blast each of those muscles.  Plus, she will provide you with postural cues to help your participants effectively engage those muscles.

Cardiovascular training is one of the most important determinants of overall health. But, do you really understand how to create efficient and effective cardiovascular workouts? In this lecture Jessica will define and review VO2 max, the 3 energy-transfer systems, aerobic and anaerobic thresholds, and discuss various interval training techniques.  She will provide you with tools to design effective cardiovascular drills and send you away with samples of challenging, well-rounded cardiovascular workouts. Helen Vanderberg - Mobility Stability Paradigm | Triple Gym

What holds us back and limits us in movement? As our knowledge of the human body in motion expands, we realize more and more that no part of the body works in isolation and that the entire body works as an integrated whole. With this understanding defining actions as an isolated event such as a hamstring stretch is only telling a part of the story. In this workshop, you will learn about the mobility and stability continuum and how mobility and stability interplay with each other continually to allow effective and efficient movement to occur. You’ll take a look at alignment from the perspective of the whole body and how each body is unique in its expression of movement.

Exercise is the single most effective non-surgical treatment method to preserve and improve joint mobility, muscular strength, and functional independence at any age. Is an exercise appropriate or inappropriate for your client or class? Why? Can you modify the exercise to make it appropriate? One of the biggest challenges for cycle leaders is maximizing the workout for all of our students, while also meeting their individual needs. Wendy Fogleman - What’s the plan?: Setting the best intentions (Deep water)

Have you ever arrived on deck for your class, and wondered what to do today? In this workshop, learn how setting intentions and planning for your class offers participants better opportunity for improved fitness, and create a simple framework you to offer variety in teaching our classes.  You will leave with lots of options for formats and themes to use in shallow Aqua, Deep Water Workouts or Tethered-training.  In the deep tank, you’ll experience an intention unfold, and we’ll review the importance of active demonstration, cueing tips, feedback and encouragement.

Helen Vanderburg - Flexibility Formulas | Triple Gym

Flexibility training seems to be the final frontier in exercise design and research. As much as we know about flexibility training there is still much that is unknown. The debate of "to stretch or not to stretch" at this time seems to be based more on personal preference. In this session, we will look at the science of flexibility, physiology of stretching, stretching progression, and a variety of stretching techniques. Learn the latest techniques of stretching and the process to determine which method is the right one for your clients.

The definition of flow:  to proceed smoothly and readily. When water choreography is smooth and seamless, it leads to improved performance, a heightened focus and a positive sense of engagement within our students.  Come join this shallow water workshop as we explore the concept of flow during some of our aquatic class components.

Mindfulness, meditation and self-care can seem impossible at times, especially when so much of your time is focussed on caring for others. Learn tools and strategies for mindfulness and meditation (also the differences and overlap of both) as means for self-care for busy fitness professionals.

Helen Vanderburg - Functional Aging | Triple Gym

Aging is inevitable but how we age is a choice. By the year 2030, it is predicted that 20-25% of the total population will be over the age of 65. With the continued growth in this demographic, trainers need to understand the importance of functional exercise programming to meet the needs of these clients. In this workshop, you will learn common concerns, corrective exercises, and programming for the aging client.

Simone Hodgkinson - Soft Tissue Release (upper and lower body) | Stanley Gym

Using a combination of yoga therapy and tennis ball release techniques, we will lengthen, release and relax the shoulders, hips and lower back to help you feel wonderful. Patty Grant - Speechless Cueing | Aquatic

Did you know that you can teach an entire aquatic exercise class without saying a word? Both verbal and nonverbal communication are essential to your participants’ experience, but nonverbal communication is significantly under-rated. Elevate your understanding of nonverbal communication and how to use it to your advantage. This workshop explores nonverbal deck communication as it relates to teaching aquatic exercise, through expressions, gestures, posture, physical environment, paralanguage, vocalization and more.
